What is Schema Markup?

Schema markup is a code (semantic vocabulary) that you add to your website's HTML to help search engines like Google understand your content more effectively. Using it can help your site appear with enhanced "rich snippets" in search results, such as star ratings, event details, or FAQ dropdowns.

A Deeper Look at Schema

Think of your website as a book. The text on the page is the story, but search engines are speed-reading it and might miss the context. Schema markup is like adding footnotes and labels, explicitly telling the search engine: "Hey, this block of text is a recipe," "this number is a price," or "this is a review for a product."

This structured data helps remove ambiguity. When Google is 100% confident about what your content means, it's more likely to feature it in interesting ways in the search results, leading to higher visibility and click-through rates for your website.
